I agree -- the Bay area would be prime. If it goes that way, you can count on me being there 3-4 years hence. But Newport would also be nice. <g> BTW, up until 1983, the New York Yacht Club held the cup; I think they moved the races to Newport in the 20s or 30s cause that's where all the millionaires spent their summers.

Strange finish to Round I. Lots of boats failed to compete, under the ostensible reason of gear failures. The Swiss and French ceded their last 2 races completely in order to prepare to overhaul their boats. Yesterday, Young America apparently had mainsail problems, and failed to reach the starting line in time for their race with Dennis. Then today, in the long awaited match between Cayard and Baird, Cayard never raised his main. Apparently they had a problem with the top batten. Maybe that's true, but perhaps Cayard chose not to show his cards vs Baird too early with so little at stake. Seems like some cagey maneuvering to me.

So that's it for Round I. Round II begins on November 6, where the races count for a lot more (I think 3 or 4 points per win, versus 1 point for the Round I heats). Stay tuned.
