ROBERTSON STEPHENS INITIATES COVERAGE OF VIXL WITH
A BUY RATING

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1999--Robertson Stephens Managing Director and
Senior Communications and Networking Analyst Paul Johnson today initiated coverage of Vixel Corp.
(NASDAQ:VIXL) with a Buy rating. Vixel manufactures and markets an end-to-end storage-interconnect
solution consisting of Fibre Channel switches, managed and unmanaged hubs and intelligent
transceivers. "We are initiating coverage of Vixel with a Buy rating," said Johnson. "We expect an
opportunity for upside surprise in revenues and earnings as the market for Fibre Channel accelerates
