>What's your take on this whole fc bunch. The field is so crowded and the industry is standards based. It looks like a replay of the disk drive business to me. Whaddyathink?<
DS.
well, i definitely like it, but from the supplier perspective. while i'm normally loathe to namedrop, i know i've previously mentioned Vitesse Semi to you, which has been growing their Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet segment very nicely (aided by two recent acquisitions, Serano Systems and Xaqti [pronounced 'shock-tee'], respectively). at last count, VTSS had over 30 products targeting these two areas from physical layer components to higher layer digital functions. and in the quarter just reported, VTSS grew FC/GE revenues by 27% QoQ and 100% YoY (and significantly, couldn't meet demand).
(i also very recently added Applied Micro Circuits as a holding; they too have an FC/GE product line.)
and when you think about our Goliath (read: EMC), i don't believe Ruettgers bought Data General for their pretty income statement alone. <vbg>
in addition, you've got Dell's very first acquisition -- taking out privately held ConvergeNet -- which for starters will provide upgrades and additions to their Fibre Channel PowerVault product line.
alas, pro'ly not the response you were looking for. (if you'd prefer to discuss further and not bore the board, feel free to PM me.)
