High Speed Access Corp. and NorthPoint Communications Partner To Deliver DSL-Based High-Speed Internet Access
DENVER and SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- High Speed Access Corp. (Nasdaq: HSAC - news) and NorthPoint Communications (Nasdaq: NPNT - news) today announced a strategic partnership to deliver broadband data communications services to small and midsize businesses nationwide. High Speed Access Corp. is a leading provider of high-speed Internet access via cable modems to residential and commercial customers in exurban markets. NorthPoint, a leading competitive local exchange carrier, provides high-speed Internet access over a DSL network currently spanning 28 major U.S. markets.
High Speed Access Corp. will integrate NorthPoint DSL into its service portfolio, expanding the broadband options its cable operator partners are able to offer their customers. The agreement strengthens High Speed Access Corp.'s high-speed Internet access services specifically designed for small and mid-size businesses not passed by the cable network and unable to afford expensive ``T-1' service. High Speed Access Corp. will begin offering NorthPoint DSL during the fourth quarter of 1999.
``By partnering with NorthPoint, High Speed Access Corp. will be able to offer our cable partners value-added services to deliver to local businesses such as increased broadband applications, e-commerce activities and high-speed Internet access connectivity to our customers,' said Ron Pitcock, president of High Speed Access Corp. ``High Speed Access Corp. and our cable partners will now be able to take advantage of this tremendous market opportunity.'
``NorthPoint's agreement with High Speed Access Corp. demonstrates the complementary nature of DSL and cable modem technology,' said Whitey Bluestein, NorthPoint's chief development officer. ``Working with High Speed Access Corp., NorthPoint has secured an exciting new distribution channel and will help cable operators capitalize on the opportunity created by the growing demand for broadband services among both businesses and consumers.'
