Globe & Mail, October 28: Talisman has slumped 11% in two days after the Canadian
government appointed a watchdog to look into the company's operations
in Sudan and threatened Talisman with economic sanctions if it doesn't
like what it finds. Talisman's partner in developing oil fields and
pipelines in Sudan is the country's military government, a regime that is
not popular with human-rights groups or the U.S. government. Ottawa
wants Talisman to put public pressure on its business partners amid
reports of slavery and relocation of civilians in the war-ravaged country.
