Can't help with your first question, but as for the second, the StockInvestor site's still up (but the GDIS page from the Joseph Charles site is gone). There's nothing much there, though:

So let's take a look at StockInvestor: stockinvestor.com

They appear to have only two picks, past and present: GDIS and BHUB. (For what it's worth, BHUB used to be SLEU; earlier this year they issued some disastrous toxic convertibles and the price collapsed.)

What do they have to say about GDIS? Well, the research doesn't seem to be their own; in fact it doesn't appear to be research at all, just blurbs from PRs:

Stuart Bockler, Tel # 732-591-0520: Number 105XXIII Feb, 05, 1999

...For Investors who want to profit on sales by IBM, Microsoft, Compaq, HP, and Cisco to latin America and their local service partners we Strongly Recommend Global DataTel (GDIS). IBM Services revenue has risen by more than 20 percent for several quarters. New software and hardware products will bolster growth in 1999, said Douglas Maine, IBM's chief financial officer.

Global Data Tel Breaks Out trading on the US NASDAQ BBoard as company completes first year operations with revenues in excess of $30 million. 1999 revenues are expected to exceed $40 million without
acquisitions. Global maintains six offices in Columbia in addition to offices in San Jose, Costa Rica and Managua, Nicaragua. Aggressive acquisition strategy could more than double revenues. Strong Buy Recommended - Target $15-$18 in six months $25 - $35 in 12-18 months.

World expansion of corporate purchases of hardware and software continue to climb generating tremendous revenue for local service
providers to capitalize on as large multinational corporations install their networks. In Latin America IBM is directing sales through their top local Business Partners with proven sales and service recognition, lifting them to distributor level in an effort to reduce International administrative costs, enhancing their bottom line Internationally. This is evident in Latin America as a consolidation and merger of top IBM Partners in the Multi-National Corporate Computer & Communication sales and service area has led to the entrance of Global DataTel, winner of the coveted IBM Golden Achievers Award for Excellence in Sales and Service for the last three years and a Microsoft Certified Solution Provider..

Mr. Baker has extensive experience in South America including a majority ownership in a Colombian computer services company with 7 offices and responsibility over several hundred employees.

Antonio Serrato, Vice President/Latin America/COO; with responsibilities on sales of more than $50 million in revenue in the area. Mr. Serrato worked with IBM for 25 years.

Mr. Oscar Barquero, President Central American Group and Mr. Rafael Delgado, President Andean Group. While President of the newly acquired Casa Informatica, an IBM reseller in Columbia, Mr. Delgado achieved a 20% annual sales growth over the last 10-15 years. Casa Informatica has been the winner of the IBM Golden Achievers Award for Sales And Service for the last three consecutive years.

Growth & Expansion

As part of its restructuring focusing on IBM business partners, Global has merged MES, Ltda, a computer integration company in Bogota, Colombia into the Andean Group of Global DataTel de Columbia; and merged International Computer Resources, an IBM business partner in Pompano Beach, FL, into the United States Group of Global DataTel USA, said Mr.Richard Baker, President & CEO of Global DataTel. MES, Ltda has been serving the Colombian marketplace for more than 16 years and is considered one of the largest third party service providers in Colombia.

International Computer is considered a leader in storage products, such as disk drives, tape drives, DVD-CD, Awis Raid storage devices and distributes products from IBM, Compaq, Seagate and Quantum. "This restructuring allows us to focus on geographic regions within the Americas to better manage our growing acquisition strategy," said Mr. Baker.

Acquisitions

Global DataTel's acquisition of Latin American-based Casa Informatica, an IBM business partner with revenues in excess of $11 million (U.S.) in 1998. Global DataTel is an international supplier of information technology, continues to build Latin America's first continent-wide data and telecom solution provider. "The acquisition of Casa Informatica is a key element of our expansion in Latin America and fits our strategic plans in serving the largest multi-nationals and Latin Americas Fortune 1000 business community," said Mr. Baker.

Global DataTel acquisition of Micro-Star, LTDA, an IBM business partner. "Micro-Star enhances our strategic alliances in Colombia. Global DataTel announced the acquisition of DLR, LTDA, Bogota, Colombian-based IBM Business Partner with alliances with Microsoft and Lotus, for $750,000, said Richard Baker, Global's CEO. DLR, based in Bogota with offices in Cali, reported revenues in excess of $6 million (U.S.) in 1998, said Baker.

Last week, Global announced the acquisitions of two Latin American IBM business partners for a combined $3.3 million. "The purchase of DLR marks our third acquisition in Colombia in less than a week to solidify our strategic alliances in South America and ability to serve Latin America's largest multi-nationals and Fortune 1000 companies, said Baker. "We are continuing to expand our presence throughout the Americas."

Industry

Industry estimates target IBM Latin American revenues at about $750 million in 1998 and expect $1 Billion in 1999 making South America one of the fastest growing markets in the world.

In a recent interview with Richard Baker at their Bogata office, Richard stated "IBM has made changes to its presents in Latin America, no longer will small to medium IBM Business Partners be able to buy direct from IBM." "Though orders are being consolidated through the the Top IBM Business Partners forcing many of the small players out and consolidating the mid-size Partners." "Global has had open discussions with many of the IBM Partners in South America to Strategically align with Global for service and sales on a continent wide basis".

Global DataTel is an IBM Business partner whose has acquired companies that have between 6 to 16 years experience engaging in medium to large system integration projects throughout Latin America. Current operations include seven offices and 240 employees. Global DataTel is strategically placed in Florida, USA; Managua, Nicaragua; San Jose, Costa Rica, and Bogota, Cali, Medillen and Barronquilla in Columbia.

Current client list includes Abbott Laboratories, Federal Express, American Airlines, Siemens, Firestone, Occidental Petroleum, Mobile Oil, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Colgate- Palmolive and Panaco (Coca-Cola) as well as Avianca Airlines, National Police-Colombia, Banco de Columbia, University of Costa Rica, ConConcreto S.A. and Taca Airline Group.

Credit Arbitrage

Though credit in Latin America is very high, ( 30% - 50%) the opportunity for Global to capitalize on these rates are strong. The above companies offer first rate credit protection and with Global's Continent wide service, sales and installation programs with reasonable terms we believe Global DataTel will become the Latin American IBM Business Partner of choice. Global DataTel provides comprehensive system services and is an authorized reseller for IBM, Compaq, HP, and Cisco, as well as being a Microsoft Certified Solution Provider, Lotus Premier Team Provider, and an exclusive distributor of JBA Intl., an E. R. P. solution company.

Internet Potential

Latin American Online: The company's internet subsidiary LAOL is in operation in Colombia . We find the potential for further expansion could be explosive in Latin America based on E-LAOL multilingual format of Spanish, Portuguese and english content. Featuring free e-mail, as well as the most current local, national, and international content available, the site is currently under development with an expected March 15, 1999 opening, said Baker.

"Using Global DataTel's extensive network throughout Latin America, eLAOL plans on a launch in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and the Andean group of countries including Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador next month," said Baker. Global DataTel said eLAOL's target for paid
subscribers is expected to approach 500,000 in 1999 through use of the company's proprietary network infrastructure throughout Latin America. The Latin American market for internet subscribers is approximately four million and is expected to grow to 38 million by the year 2002. Internet usage for Latin America is estimated to outpace the rest of the world by a four-to-one margin.
