Frank...

As always, my hat is off to you for the amazing scope that you cover - and so well.

As you know, I've sloshed around in this swamp of the telecom for a while (can you say 103a modem?) and couldn't always find the plug when it was over my head, but...

Users will always want more than you can give 'em. Anyone with kids knows where this comes from. You referred to a trip to Sears, I believe?

Technology is the toy store. Ya gotta have the new, shiny thingie. You beat up on the Mommies and Daddies (ISPs) 'til you get it, then - BORING.

Bandwidth, IMHO, will always be behind the curve because of the embedded base. The price point to go in and rip out a working, cost effective backbone (or whatever) will be driven by (unsatisfied/latent) demand. Marketeers and pollsters are infamous for getting it (the forecast) wrong.

I agree with your concern about the "fix" of the cache hanging around after the BW catches up (?) but I think I'm saying that it won't catch up. But IF it ever does, the shiny, new thing syndrome (new, unforecast needs and toys) will assure that relief period will be brief.

Anyhoo.. as one that has fought the need for a dymnamic market data feed (Level II) over the Internet, I would have welcomed the availabilty of a caching system. I chose Satellite.

and I welcome all the BW that may come. but I want more. being a kid is better.

regards

Ed
