If the tobacco companies had engaged in some of the practices that the State has employed, they would be in trouble. <G>. I mean if the tobacco companies had memos that suggested that tobacco might be dangerous...or if there are memos that suggest that Florida might be liable for "just compensation"...

Just remember that the State of Florida is paying a small group of lawyers $4.3 Billion in fees for just handling the case against the tobacco companies. Perhaps CCO ought to receive at least that amount for their leases. If you listen to the State's rhetoric, the benefit to Florida for preventing offshore oil drilling is as important as getting money from the tobacco companies. The tobacco case isn't even preventing anyone from smoking (except by high prices for cigarettes).

I'm just using the tobacco case to indicate that tens of billions of dollars is not unthinkable for the State of Florida. They think big here <G>.
