You are very welcome. More than a decade ago, the Barnes Foundation sent a portion of its collection around to various museums, among them the National Gallery. I walked through, and reflected on the "picked over" quality of many of the paintings, second rate Impressionist, even by first rate artists, with an occasional stand- out, such as a piece by Seurat of a pubescent girl dressing. Then I walked into a room filled to the brim with Matisse's, and was ravished! Barnes had one of the finest collections of Matisse paintings (some of which he commissioned personally) in the world. It was overwhelming. Ever since, I have been convinced.....One of my favorite rooms at the MOMA is filled with Matisse's....
