Rare Medium Creates Solutions Software and E-Mail System for MailSpace;Free E-Mail System Contains More Than 1,000 Domain Names

DALLAS, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Rare Medium Inc., the Web consulting services arm of Rare Medium Group Inc. (Nasdaq: RRRR), announced it has been selected by MailSpace to develop the software and create a new web-based e-mail system capable of handling thousands of domain names. MailSpace is the first advertiser-supported, free e-mail provider to offer customers more than 1,000 extensions to select from to establish their Internet identity.

According to John South, senior vice president of operations Southwest region, Rare Medium Inc., when the free e-mail system launches in November, users of the site with Internet access can send and receive e-mail from all over the world. The e-mail service is designed to allow customers the ability to select e-mail addresses with personal affinities, hobbies, professions and interests. For example, a customer whose pastime is sailing can choose the sailing domain name, sailmail.net, and establish an e-mail in this category (johndoe@sailmail.net).

MailSpace, based in Abilene, Texas, was initiated in 1998 by Randall Barnett to add distinguishable e-mail addresses to the traditional forms of maintaining contact and communicating with people -- various addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses. MailSpace e-mail domain names are easier to remember because they are tailored to such things as personal interests, activities and professions. MailSpace conducted marketing research and the results indicated people want distinguishable e-mail addresses, not just obscure letters and numbers.

"I chose Rare Medium because they are well-seasoned professionals versed in every aspect of the Internet and its surrounding technologies, said Barnett. "I was impressed by their technical expertise. Rare Medium has developed software that brings MailSpace to life," said Barnett.

John South, general manager of Rare Medium's Dallas operations, said, "Rare Medium understood what MailSpace needed for its e-mail service, and we used our creative, strategic and technology resources to develop software specific to its needs."
