Mud weight in lbs/per gal. X .052 X True vertical depth = PSI.

This is called hydrostatic pressure.
This pressure has to be greater than the formation pressure.
If its not...then hydrocarbons may enter the wellbore.
If this is not handled correctly....the result can be a blow out ...like last year.

TD is total depth.....top to bottom no matter the angle.

TVD is true vertical depth.
I'm aware of a hole that was about 34,000 ft. to total depth.....yet the TVD was only about 5000-8000 ft. Not to sure.:)

When perforating a well....very hot, plasma, molten like gas is what perforates the casing/cement/formation.

Hey...maybe we can say "the hole has reached CIBC"....instead of TD. :)
