The perf guns use explosive charges. The super heated...molten...plasma like gases vaporize everything in its path. When ever we are ready to run a perf gun the rig goes on radio silence. No microwave..No wireless at all. The wireline company says its impossible to set their guns off like this...but the oil company pays the bills so they do things their way.....I guess its not a pretty sight when these guns go off on the rig floor with people standing around. Most of the times the guns are fired with a electrical signal. But there are many ways and many different situations. Sometimes the guns are run on the end of the production tubing and are never recovered. A slick line with heavy sinker bar is run down the tubing and strikes the firing head on the guns to set them off. The guns may be detached later and allowed to fall to the bottom of the hole. Sometimes the guns are fired by pumping up the pressure on the wellbore. Anyone is welcome to "perf" holes in anything I have said. Its been along time since i was involved in a drilling operation....I'm in production now......raisin
