Bux, something else to consider about a VRD vs. CRT, A CRT can only scan 3 converged beams at once, adding more beams would cause interference because of the second set of deflection plates. The VRD on the other hand can paint with a brush, I.e multiple lines at once. This allows an increase in the resolution without pushing the mechanical limits of the scanner. The BCBL (Battle Control, Battle Lab) display scans 5 lines at once. The picture is incredible. The theoretical limit is somewhere beyond HDTV resolution. Currently the Airforce is asking for 1/4 degree arc minute resolution or 4 times the resolution an eye is capable of.
