Voltaire, as you know, Qualcomm's PDQ and IBM's "WorkPad" phone run on the Palm software platform. And more recently, at the telecom conference in Geneva, Palm announced they would jointly develop and license their platform with Nokia and Symbian.

In light of the fact that both Sharp and Philips are abandoning the use of Windows CE, I have to wonder if the Palm computing platform may well be positioned to soon become the Gorilla of wireless operating systems.

What do you make of these unfolding events?

To be sure, Palm is ramping marketshare and you know 3Com plans to spin off this division as a pure play in wireless. Other than the fact Palm is positioning itself "orthogonal" to Microsoft (a risky move to be sure for any company wanting to survive in the rain forest), I find the Palm platform to be exhibiting strong gorillaish characteristics.
