Tellabs Acquires Select Assets of DSP Software Engineering

Deal Accelerates Tellabs' Ability to Deliver Voice-over-IP Capabilities For Service Providers, Bolsters Voice-Quality Enhancement Solutions

October 29, 1999 08:00 AM

LISLE, Ill., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Tellabs (TLAB) announced today that it is acquiring select assets from DSP Software Engineering, Inc. (DSPSE), a Bedford, Mass.-based developer of digital signal processing software. The $35 million all-cash deal will enhance Tellabs' ability to help service providers deliver voice-over-IP backbones.

DSPSE is a leading provider of digital signal processor software, which enables service providers to maximize use of available bandwidth, minimize costs and enhance audio and video quality. Tellabs plans to integrate DSPSE's software into its AN2100(R) Gateway Exchange(TM) (GX) System, a next-generation switching system that enables service providers to consolidate circuit-switched and variable bit rate data services over a single, broadband network. DSPSE's component algorithms would be used with the AN2100 system to deliver voice over IP backbones. DSPSE's signaling processing program bridges conventional telephony signals across circuit-switched and packet-switched networks.

"We're pleased to work collaboratively with Tellabs to lead the evolution to voice-over-multi-protocol networks," said Joseph Della Morte, president of DSPSE. "We believe that Tellabs can integrate our software to deliver a complete solution to global customers."

"The addition of the DSPSE technology will enhance our ability to deliver voice-over-multi-protocol solutions and bolster our industry-leading voice-quality enhancement solutions worldwide," said Brian J. Jackman, president of Global Systems and Technology at Tellabs.
