<< As we approach 2000, wouldn't it be nice if we could come around to thinking of each other not as members of opposing camps but, instead, consider each other simply "differently prepared.">>
It would be very nice, Karen; since, IMO, that's about what the contents of the pot boils down to when all the steam is waved away.
Three people observe someone buying a few extra home supplies because of Year 2000. The first one thinks, "That person is overreacting." The second person thinks, "That person is being prudent." The third person thinks, "That person is grossly underpreparing." However, the only thing that really has any meaningful immediate value or outcome in the situation is the action of the person doing the buying. The rest is steam.
Your point is well made, IMO; everyone, from the person who chooses to do nothing to the person who believes they are ready for TEOTWAWKI, has "prepared" in their own and different way. Unfortunately, many societies, in the various forms of the definition, seem to put more emphasis on *controlling* rather than *helping* others. A burden shared is work made light.
