RE>> I think if we stick to studying the books, chapters and verses, in the order that they are presented in the Bible, it will be less confusing<<
I prefer that method. Topical studies can result in scripture being taken out of context or people who disagree with your presuppositions about the topic can "think" you must be out of context because they disagree with your conclusion of the Topic :-}
RE>> they should comment on the chapter and verses being presented at the time.<<
Quoting other scripture to support what you believe about the scriptures at hand is important.
If people merely say " I think it means this "
While yet another person says " I think it means that "
Then one of two things will happen...
People will admit that one or both of them are wrong ( This is correct )
Or People will conclude that they are Both Right ( this is a great evil and comes from the deceiver )
People should at least TRY to prove what they believe from the rest of the scriptures as it is written:
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
And again:
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
And to prove my main point :-}
2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
All scripture has DEFINATE MEANING but we are slow to hear . |
