Cabletron Systems Prepares the National Magazine Company for Convergence Through High-Speed Gigabit Solution
ROCHESTER, N.H. and NEWBURY, England, Oct 29, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Leading UK Reseller, Prime Business Solutions, Work to Ensure Publishers of Cosmopolitan, She and Esquire Increase their Competitive
Edge
Cabletron Systems (NYSE: CS), in association with its UK Synergy Platinum Plus channel partner, Prime Business Solutions (PBS), today announced that the London-based National Magazine Company has selected a Cabletron Gigabit Ethernet solution to enhance performance of its LAN infrastructure. The upgrade will allow for increased efficiency of the LAN environment including faster file transfer, and prepare the media organization for future converged voice, video and data integration plans.
Utilizing Cabletron's SmartSwitch Routers (SSRs) will enable The National Magazine Company, publishers of leading publications such as Cosmopolitan, She and Esquire, to process new centralized applications without experiencing degradation in overall performance. In addition, the new Cabletron SSR solution will ensure the organization is fully equipped for emerging convergence applications by providing a unique, end-to-end, "voice-ready" environment. In turn, also through the use of the SSR's Layer-4 capabilities, Cabletron ensures a resilient backbone for the reliable transport of video traffic.
Su Brown, network and communications manager at The National Magazine Company, explains, "Being a publishing house, it was important for us to upgrade our existing infrastructure, allowing us to facilitate the future requirements of the business. This included introducing new 32-bit software, a new financial system, a new centralized photo library and the creation of a corporate intranet. We also wanted to embrace a technology that would prepare us for emerging applications, allowing us to continue increasing our competitive edge within the industry."
"With Cabletron's SSR technology we receive a completely resilient communications infrastructure at a cost-effective rate. When combined with the technical expertise shown by both Cabletron and their partner, PBS, the platform and partner of choice was an easy one to make. " Brown continued.
"Prime was the first partner to install an SSR in Europe. This long-term experience has enabled us to maximize the return on investment our customers make in the technology, by utilizing SSR's and implementing Layer-4 class of service functionality when required. These features will be key in an environment such as The National Magazine Company where prioritization of mission-critical applications will be required in the future," said Tony Brar, PBS account manager. "Utilizing the capabilities Cabletron provides in the SSR enabled PBS to build an intelligent infrastructure where the movement of such data did not impact other mission-critical applications such as Lawson Financials." concluded Brar.
Industry recognition for the Cabletron SSR family is at an all-time high with both the Dell'Oro Group and Dataquest (part of Gartner Group) placing the family in first position for the Layer 3 switch market. Furthermore, InternetWeek Magazine selected the SSR 8600 as "Best of Breed" in May 1999 and Network Magazine named the same switch "Product of the Year" in its May 1999 issue.
