Besides which it is a lot of fun. I urge you all to try it.

Last Saturday I participated with my church singles group in
repairing and painting a wood-frame house owned by a 73-year-old
woman whose income is $540 a month. We got the project thru the
Private Sector Initiative organization (hope I got the name right)
which supplies the materials thru private funding.

It was a fun day well spent. There seems to be a bonding
that develops among a volunteer group that wouldn't otherwise
happen -- and a renewed appreciation of how good most of us
have it. When the homeowner heard us discussing our plan to
order pizza for lunch, she said, "Domino won't deliver to this
neighborhood."
