OT - JDSU
<Is JDSU really the biggest or just the biggest small company?>

They are the largest in the industry...larger than the next 3 competitors combined.

<Does JDSU have blocking IP to preclude serious competition?>

The barriers to entry are high due to the technology. For example, undersea 980 nanometer laser pump modules require rigorous testing for close to a year, and must be able to perform for at least 30.

JDSU has over 100 physicists working for them. They are the only provider where vendors can 1 stop shop. To my knowledge, they are the only manufacturer of both active and passive components. They are a combination of units from IBM, United Technologies and maybe Phillips prior to merging with JDS Fitel.

Eariler, someone stated that they have no competition for undersea nanometer laser pumps. Not true...SDLI competes with a very good product, and sells a ton of it to ALA.

JDSU is benefiting from DWDM, and is in the midst of enjoying unbelievable demand for its products across all 70 lines. You are seeing today what you will see in the future with the Q.

The beauty with JDSU is that they are the arms dealer. They are only interested in the light moving through the fiber....they could care less if its for telephony or cable.

I believe you should own the Q and JDSU !!!! You cover the dominant bandwidth providers for the next 5 years(at a minimum).

Thanks to all of you for all you have taught me about wireless.

50% Q, 50% JDSU

Cheers,
Kent
