Dan and thread....a serious moment here <g>
For months Dan, Carl, Wiley, the guy in Europe and many others have been saying "if it was a level playing field with real competition, Rambus would get killed". Well, if the recent articles are correct, Intel will now be more responsive to the OEM desires, and the OEMs are pursuing a variety of chipset/processor/memory alternatives in their product lines.
Great. Competition is what Dan and others have asked for, and it sure looks to me like we are going to have it. In the next few months we will have Servers, workstations, desktops, mobile PCs and value systems configured with just about any combo you want. RDRAM, SDRAM, DDRDRAM, 100 mg. front end bus, 133 mg. front end bus, 200 mg. front end bus.
Hey, if the customer is king, then the customer will have the choice. Price, performance, availability, stability....all laid out for everyone to see. I know some will feel Rambus will rule, some feel it will die. Well, the stage is set.
Let the games begin! |
