Re:(3) $1+ gain today maybe a signal of good things to come. I'd bet a lot of $$$ you are right. The history of this stock is that it almost always moves in the direction of the move that will occur after the news is announced. Makes you wonder of course why this is the case. But, I think that Panic may have learned that hiding misadventures in some glib BS write off doesn't work. If he didn't get that message at the last shareholders meeting he is beyond hope. My bet is that the earnings report will be clean and continue with a favorable global earnings story. I think there is absolutely nothing worse that can happen in Russia and Yugo so it will be hard to have a surprise there. I concur with your anticipation of the stock response if the report is good.
