It's the principle of the thing. The banks have said we aren't going to let gold float. We're quasi-fixing the price. Something like currency bands. It's a script written in disaster, but it will work for awhile. There's no point in banging your ahead against this wall.

The banks can't contain the gold price if the price has a reason to rise. There is one reason they can't manage. It's inflation. Inflation will be back next year more dynamically. What the FED is doing by disrupting the market's ability to find the equilibrium price for high powered funds guarantees that. There's no point to sitting on a possibly wasting asset. Time to move on.
