How do I clean up Windows98?
SOME BACKGROUND: When you first mentioned Norton Utilities and System Works at least six months ago, I bought Utilities since I already had the big Norton Anti-Virus program. If you remember, I held the record for 171 errors in Win95 that were fixed and it made that laptop as good as the day I bought it. Seems to me that I read here that someone passed me on that record with over 200 problems fixed.
Anyway, that program was a gem, but the techie guy I hired says I cannot use it with Win98 as it messes it all up.
I have had four blue screen fatal errors in the month I have had this big Compaq. My only choice was to unplug the computer, plug it back in, let it do its Norton scan and the Scandisk to get it up and running again.
It there a place already in Win98 where I can clean up the errors? I just know I have errors because of my experience with Norton Utilities.
By the way, I did what you folks suggested on my inernet disconnect problems. I leave Explorer running, set to check mail every five minutes. It is much, much better now. Only disconnects twice a day instead of 20 times. I'm going to call my ISP on Monday and see what they say. Compaq says it is static in the lines which can be fixed by the telephone company, since my ISP is a division of that telephone company.
I know you are a Win95 person, but I wanted to thank you for bringing Utilities to my attention. I still plan on using the laptop when we travel in the motorhome. Sorry to make this so long.
