<presumably it [split] was even more "needful" back in May, and
yet the short-term post-split action was a pullback>

that pullback was absolutely a response to 30yr TBond yields rising from 5.5% to 5.9%
in the course of one month
the entire stock market, Naz and all, moved down in unison then
(now yields dropping from 6.4% to 6.15% is powerful & positive)

I believe exceeding the whispered 97 cents is key
- reiterating anxious potential buyers of handset division is key
- explosive growth of CDMA chipset is key
- developments of Intel business relationship is key
- progress in Europe is important
- progress with internatl consortium is important
- confirmation of intention to split very soon is important
