<<Lisa Allen, an analyst at Forrester Research Inc. in Cambridge, Mass. said Levi's is setting a trend in the wrong direction by giving in to retailers and backing away from the Web. >>
Glenn, yes I read this article. Lisa Allen of Forrester thinks Levi is setting a trend in the wrong direction? Hmmm!
Well, as you know if there wasn't a Web there would be no Forrester. So take what ever Forrester says as a shade of bias.<vbg>
Business has not been good for Levi these last few years and putting big $bucks into money losing on-line retail selling just didn't make sense, and I guess they didn't want to keep up with the Bezo $money losing way.
Everyone knows that even Wal-Mart didn't want a loss leader division either, but Bezos started the fad so now in the future only deep pocketed players, or small I-net retail companies with great little niche's will survive.
Did you see Cramer on of the business channels yesterday?
He said that the Bezos business model was a joke and told the audience to get out of Toys.
All Toys from Matel, to eToys. I guess the competition is so bad that the toy retailers are almost giving Barbie's away.
Bezos sure started a great business model. For every $2 bucks that he brings in the door, $4 goes out.
Even though Bezos does have the customers money the second he gets an order the free cash flow he gets still won't save his ass. Sorry I meant his junk bond holders. Bezos has already socked away enough of his shareholders money so by the year 2004 he won't lose that little loft on Lake Washington.
I've mentioned this to you before. If I was Bezos I'd try to duplicate the Costco model (Seattle based). Costco makes a $ton charging its members a annual fee of 50-100 for the privilege, and savings of shopping there.
If you believe some of the bulls here that think that Amzn is such a great shopping experience, and don't forget his terrific customer service that they should have no hesitation to pay him an annual fee. If only just to get TMFJeff's "the touch, the feel, and the community experience".
Name me one person here that wouldn't pay Uncle Jeff a annual annuity just for the shopping privilege. You???:-))
