Convenience was invented in the Fifties, in America. The concept has developed both sides of the Atlantic - pizza delivery, all-night supermarkets, telephone banking. Technology is driving efficiency - or is it the other way around? Someone else is efficient so that you don't have to be.
Michael Dell, founder of Dell Computer, could have been speaking of his own success when he said recently that one day, one company really messed it up for all the others. That company created a product that people wanted, made it at an affordable price and delivered it to the customer when they wanted it. Damn, thought all the others, we'll have to do that too. |
