This Hershey deal is a perfect precursor to what I believe may become the true character of Y2K when it finally plays out. Granted some stuff won't boot up at all and that should be obvious to their operators. But this potential stealth failure of large systems won't be apparent until it has had some time to cause dislocations in the very systems they were developed to control. These "tears in the economic fabric" are going to be the clues that evidence serious problems in the e-infrastructure. This Hershey fiasco was really quite subtle. People got their paychecks. . .planes didn't fall out of the sky. No, but it seems to have laid waste to much of their marketing efforts. In other words their very raison d'etre. Really bad news, yes, but they get to repair it while the lights are still on! Think about the implications of that little observation! Bill
