Perhaps there was...perhaps religion became more prominent because people realized that a morality had to be better established to combat the corruption. No... quite the contrary, I am suggesting religion doesn't matter at all. Come to think of it, some of the countries with the strongest religious ties today are also the most corrupt. Mexico comes to mind.
