Re: Way OT, some may want to pass by
  Hi Frank,
One of the interesting and peculiar aspects of Internet time is that we can all recall ancient history (of the Net) because it was occuring just yesterday. Thanks for the interesting and relevant discussion of the nature of man's propensity to centralize. Of course what the NS folks were thinking is, with the luxury of perfect hindsight on my part, that centralization is a good thing. If I am to believe his book, and I do, Tim Berners-Lee had a far better grasp of the revolutionary potential for de-centralization that the Web, in particular, affords. To this day, the folks who run "My Netscape" really still don't get it. They think that they need a front end to focus the hearts and minds of the masses on a common concept. My view of the possibilities of the Web are completely in opposition to such a channelizing viewpoint. I thrive on the uniqueness of the front end I have created, all starting from the simplest of premises in 1995 that I ought to be able to create my own newspaper, instead of relying on any one news gather organization with all the legacy baggage and filtration that that involved. Of course, the FCTC is part of the daily ritual now. Nice to have a gathering place that can cover so much ground, so well. Kudos to all participants.
