Hamburg, Oct. 30 (Bloomberg) -- The following is a comment
by Richard Roy, managing director of Microsoft Corp.'s German
division, on a pending decision in the U.S. government's
antitrust case against Microsoft. The government contends that
the world's largest software company has taken steps to protect
its market dominance by preventing rivals from distributing
competing products. Microsoft denies the charges. Roy's comments
come in a pre-release of an interview with German Sunday paper
Welt am Sonntag:

On whether the case is weighing on Microsoft's earnings:
``No. We don't notice anything like that with regard to the
company's sales and share price. But of course the U.S.
Department of Justice has caused a big commotion about the
case.'

On whether there is a chance of an out-of-court agreement:
``Hardly. I also don't think that the first court case will
be sufficient. I think there will be a further round. And then we
won't only be dealing with one judge but with a jury of three
judges.'

On whether Microsoft's growth is stronger in or outside the U.S.:
``Germany is the third-largest market behind the U.S. and
Japan. At the moment the German division is growing faster the
(whole) corporation.'
