Michael: In the middle of composing that reply, I bumped myself off SI and was unable to get back until now (15 minutes later). This has nothing to do with NSCP, MSFT, DELL(my computer) or WIN95: SI's server was not processing requests.

Im not a MSFT technician. I DO know, however, that WIN 3.1 has probs. with some programs taking memory allocations and not returning it when finished, or not needed. A/c friends at INTC, only fix is to reboot computer.

I also know that people who have used space compression utilities often dont leave enough free space on uncompressed part to accomodate
size of swapfile.

I believe under "help" "swapfile" there may be more info. I would think that there was an upper limit to swapfile size.

There are so many ways memory is affected it is hard to imagine any one answer to the eternal question "Why is my machine so slow?"
