Different things give different times.
First, I make backups of what I'm about to lose. This eats time as I double check the backups actually will restore when needed.
Format hard disk (Format /Q) less than a minute. But wait! I usually fiddle with partitions too, and this extends the time to nearly an hour.
Load Win98 from CD about an hour. Install says 59 minutes. Clock says a little over. Done this so often I almost have the product identification number by memory.
Drivers takes me a really long time. About two to three hours, depending on wether my guesses about which CD has which file are lucky.
I load some Office stuff. It takes a while because I pick and choose what I want and don't take the defaults blindly. About an hour, but I haven't timed it.
Preference settings take a couple of hours. Even though I'm going through my paper copies and not making decisions, something always seems to jump up and bite me.
I included testing my new system as part of the installation. As yet, I haven't a paper copy of the procedure and tend to duplicate some testing in an attempt to not overlook something. If I was better organized, this part would be quicker.
Last re-load I did, I recorded the exact times things took. I didn't refer to these notes for this post, but am using memory. If more accuracy is needed, I'd copy the times from paper, once I located where I put it!
Cheers, PW.
