Thank you for your excellent suggestions. Here is what I have already done that addresses your specific suggestions.:
You suggest: bottled water: I have 3 artesian wells and a generator for the pump house. Furthermore, I have secured the parts necessary to build a solar distiller and am ready to assemble it at a moment's notice should the 400' deep artesian wells become brackish, etc.

You suggest batteries for the flashlight: I have a fully self contained bunkhouse with 2 120watt Kyocera Solar Panels and multiple 8-D gel cell batteries ($265 per), and one helluva Stat-Power True Sinewave inverter.

Plus just for the flashlights and other battery powered 'gizmos' like a Waring Blenderor the flashlight, I have parallel wired several Radio Shack solar panels together to re-generate any battery powered unit, including flashlights.

You suggest a full tank of gas: I have several gas storage options and a multi-year supply of 2yr per treatment Sta-bil fuel stabilizer.

You suggest leaving the electric garage door open: I sold the house with the electric garage door and don't have that problem now.

You suggest an empty freezer: I bought 2 propane powered ones and a huge propane tank. I also purchased a rifle and a shotgun and MANUAL reloading supplies for same, so that apprehension of wild game will not be a problem.

You suggest lots of exact change for vending machines You mean the ones like the post office has that are always breaking down now, pre-y2k??? Don't count on them or the old fashioned twist-type, as they require regular maintenance. I personally seriously doubt the gas ration coupon books which are already printed and awaiting distribution will be issued in abundance to the "vending man."

Besides, for "lots of exact change" I have been processing placer gold and have plenty of "exact change" golddust on hand for all occasions, especially since most of commerce will be relegated to the open air marketplace, where scales and gold is welcome, such as is common in other parts of the world.

Oh, and, altho' you didn't make the following suggestion, I went ahead and I closed out 98% of my portfolio and ceased my successful naked options home office trader campaign of 17 years last April,
...after I sold my home,
...and went flat in the market.

I bought 4 goldmines instead and am having one helluva good time, yes
both placer and hardrock properties. Been squirreling away the 'concentrates' for inside processing all winter long.

Suggest you might sleep a little better if you take your SWC lumps and get out of such ILLLLLLLLLiquid commodities as plat and pall.

Good Luck to you as you learn the hard way about SWC's dismal future and Y2K's chaos. You'll need it, especially with your recently shortened 'neckline' experience.
