JPR: I am not prepared to write off China,like it or not they will be one of the 'powers' to be reckoned with -economically and militarily- in the new millennium.

I don't think the U.S and the West wants to isolate China, at best they try to contain them as long as they can but won't succeed , besides they need access to the Chinese market, it is the next big 'frontier' for Western capitalists. They got some of the 'best' brains around, they are gradually gaining economic strength (keep watching the foreign reserve)-GDP has been growing rather nicely for the last 15 years and continue growing, they can survive without foreign markets if it comes to that and finally if and when (it is more like when not if) Taiwan joins the mainland - 'look out Nellie'.
