As I'm sure you know, the "superior" device, or technology, or just plain product doesn't always win out:
Betamax vs. VHS
Apple vs. IBM PC
68000, Z80 vs. 8086
Japan Inc., mid 80's vs. American semiconductor companies
OS/2 vs. Windows
Amdahl vs. IBM
Hitachi vs. IBM
I hate to say it, but superior marketing, or the just plain monster, 800 lb. gorilla company won out in all of these cases. If you're right about Rambus being inferior, and I believe the jury is still out on that one a lot, it still could be added to the list of "inferior" products that won out anyway. It may not be right, but that's business, baby.
