Based on the replies I have received it is clear to me that flash is too expensive and too slow to be used in place of DRAM in the application I mentioned.

I am glad that someone interpreted my brief statement in the manner I intended :-)

I believe that flash memory and DRAM/SDRAM will coexist peacefully for at least a few more years.

Really sticking your neck out ;-)

It would be silly to believe that flash will not be replaced at some time in the future.

I quite agree, the same could be said for DRAM. Who knows what will develop in the future - perhaps it will be a holographic storage medium or an organic medium that replaces either or both of them!
