To the thread:

I have just read David's message resigning from his role based on the private message that I sent him this morning.

Given the contents of his posting announcing his resignation, I am posting the private message that I sent to him so that participants on the thread can see precisely what I stated to David.

For the record, I did inform Pat, this morning, that I was contemplating withdrawing from the contest and he pleaded with me not to do so.

I deeply regret the way events have unfolded.

************************************************************

David, I am distressed at the turn of events that have occurred with Pat.

Quite frankly, having read and re-read the exchanges several times, I feel that the situation has been mishandled. I can understand your sensitivity to the post from Pat that he was trying to blow up his account.

I personally viewed the post as an instance of Pat's sardonic humor surfacing and certainly capable of being
misunderstood. I don't for a moment believe that he was intentionally seeking to blow up his account. Go back and look at prior posts from him when he realized that the market had charged ahead -- he says that he was taking his kids to school when that occurred and that he did not have a stop in place. If his intention was to blow up the account he would have just left the trade in place or perhaps shorted a bunch more since it was clear by the time that he closed it out that the market was headed higher.

I do not blame you for having taken offense at his post and felt that it was disrespectful. If you wanted to make a point in public based on that it would have been entirely appropriate to suggest to Pat that if he was not interested in the contest that there were others waiting in the wings who would like to do so. But to boot him out in public was uncalled for -- and that is what I find offensive.

My feelings about Pat are based on a couple of factors -- first, I have the utmost respect for him as a futures trader and I don't like seeing him being treated disrespectfully. Second, he was instrumental in making the thread an active one that discussed substantive matters -- after it lay dormant for a long time.

Let me say again that for someone who is not familiar with Pat's style of writing --his sardonic approach can be
misunderstood. I do not blame you for feeling slighted at his comment that he was trying to blow up his equity. My issue it how you chose to react to it.

At no time did he question GZ's integrity--he chose to question some of the changes that he made to his postings through edits in a way that left no audit trail as to the timeliness and validity of the actions. This was a loop-hole that you dealt with subsequently.

Anyway, this whole thing has left me feeling quite turned off the contest. I am still mulling over it but the likelihood is that I shall withdraw from the contest this evening just as a matter of principle. I have heard from a couple of other contestants who have expressed similar sentiments whether or not they choose to terminate their participation I don't know or care.

It is regrettable that things have come to this -- and I hope that you do not feel that I am being uncharitable to you in my comments. I do believe that sensitive matters are best dealt with in private -- which is precisely why I have chosen to use this mode of communication with you.

If and when I post my withdrawal from the contest, I shall refer to the situation with Pat as being the reason for my withdrawal -- I am not certain that I shall go into any of the details that I have outlined above.
