'Silicon psychic' looks to the months ahead

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- She's a marketing consultant, and she's a psychic, and when she casts her prescient eyes on Silicon Valley, Barbara J. Courtney marries those two roles.

Her credentials are built on having correctly predicted that Steve Jobs would return triumphantly to Apple Computer (AAPL: news, msgs); that the U.S. Justice Department would train its sights on Microsoft (MSFT: news, msgs); and that media outlets would blame violent outbursts, such as the shooting rampage by a day trader in Atlanta, on the Internet.

Using Halloween as a pretext, the San Francisco Examiner on Sunday asks Courtney to peer into the future.

Among her prognostications: that Bill Gates & Co. will be "not slammed, but slapped" by the government at the close of its lengthy antitrust proceeding; that Jobs and other high-tech luminaries will soon turn their attention to biotechnology;
