Hi Bill Jackson; Good post re the customs service.
Here's another slant on all this legal action:
It could be that Intel threw its weight around this past summer, but was unable to prevent the mother board makers from supporting Athlon. Or, the mother board makers did suppress their advertising, but, when Intel stumbled so badly on Comino and Coppermine, (and the industry knew in advance what happens when a CEO orders the company to produce something a couple months ahead of schedule), the mother board makers had to start shipping Athlon product. They tried to cover their butts by suppressing markings and all that, but it wasn't enough for Intel. Now, the mother board makers are having to pay the price. But Intel is seriously defiguring itself in order to spite them.
By the way, my guess for the reason Intel isn't suing HWP, IBM, MU or CPQ, is that Intel has cross licensing agreements with those companies, and can't sue them for patent infringement. Maybe someone has suggested this already, it seems pretty obvious.
All of this is incredibly good news for AMD. The error at Intel is simply stunning, amazing arrogance. It's like Sir Intel is a tired old company that still thinks it has the power to out bench press the kids. He's trying to use strong arm tactics but his arms are no longer strong. The next inevitable step, by the way, is lady DELL starting to see lovers on the side.
