DiviCom Wins at DIRECTV Colorado Broadcast Center; Largest US Satellite
Provider Improves Video Quality and Satellite Bandwidth with DiviCom Open
Solutions

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 1999--DiviCom(R) Inc., the world's
leading provider of open solutions for digital television and a C-Cube
(Nasdaq:CUBE) subsidiary, today announced that it has been selected by DIRECTV
to provide the entire digital television compression system to its Castle Rock
Broadcast Center (CRBC) in Castle Rock, Colorado.

DiviCom's complete MPEG-2 compression system solution will enable DIRECTV to
broadcast hundreds of digital channels to its nearly 8 million viewers throughout the
country. In addition, DiviCom MPEG-2 encoder technology, the most widely deployed
in the world, will enable DIRECTV to optimize digital video quality for its viewers.

DiviCom, the world's leading provider of satellite systems technology, has a
long-standing relationship with DIRECTV, having built the entire uplink signal
processing system at its Los Angeles Broadcast Center (LABC) and having
provided compression equipment to DIRECTV Japan.

With this new contract to deliver technology to the CRBC, DiviCom will become the
largest supplier of digital television compression technology to DIRECTV.

"We were looking for proven engineering excellence, superior video quality, and
expert integration services. We selected DiviCom because they provide all three,"
said Byron Kirchart, vice president of Broadcast Systems at DIRECTV. "We were
pleased with DiviCom's performance in our LABC installation and are looking to
continue that successful relationship."

"We are really pleased to expand our long-standing relationship with DIRECTV. It's
our experience with digital television technology that leads providers such as
DIRECTV to rely on DiviCom solutions for their major deployments," said Tom
Lookabaugh, President of DiviCom.

"They count on our expert integration skills to assemble best-of-breed multi-vendor
solutions and deliver compression rates and video quality high enough to meet the
most stringent broadcasting standards."

DiviCom Products Drive DIRECTV, Castle Rock Deployment

DiviCom's encoders, network management systems, and multiplexers will form the
core of the Castle Rock Broadcast Center compression system as DIRECTV is
replacing its current system with DiviCom's compression technology. In addition, the
DiviCom integration team, DiviSys(SM), will be responsible for integrating the new
system with the NDS conditional access system (CAS) at the Castle Rock facility.

DiviCom will use the following technology to support the uplink facility: -0- -- The
DiviCom MediaView(TM) MV40 Encoder: DIRECTV will deploy

MediaView MV40 standard definition encoders, which offer superior

video compression efficiency in a cost-effective package. The

MV40 incorporates the award-winning DiviTrack(TM) statistical

multiplexing feature to proactively apply the most accurate,

efficient encoding strategy to any type of video scene or special

effect. This capability enables the encoder to maintain picture

quality at extremely low bit rates, thus providing television

service providers more flexibility in allocating program

bandwidth. -- The THESYS(TM) Integrated Network Management Solution: A
modular

suite of user-friendly software packages that provide integrated, advanced element
and network management. -- The MediaNode(TM) MN20 Multiplexers: This
technology grooms

MPEG-2 streams generated by encoders and digital receivers,

performs scrambling and packages these signals into DIRECTV

transport streams for delivery over the company's satellite

network. -0-
