The comparison against Cascade? Let's start with different business model. NN will have never problems with mergers. The "offsprings" provide seamless product integration "from the birth", not by "marriage contract". I am not aware about this happening around Cascade. The full benefit and wisdon of this strategy is to be seen.

Integration of the business styles? Nonexistent. Some associates are withing the NN campus. Some 30 km or 1500 km away.

Too large capitalization? No problem. If I am not mistaken, none of associates went public yet. They are going to raise lots of capital and NN stock will feel nothing - different entity, with expectation of a large PE.

The advantages go on and on - management style, fitting with product in the corporate profile, space for many egos to get satisfied. Sorry, but the technical advantages are secondary to this. Yes, the area of business must be and is ready to absorb all products.
