Hello stable-mate, you might be CL's brother but I guess we are now stable mates.

You don't need to become a corporation or anything else. As a US citizen you can stake a claim. You have to erect monuments on each claim, (maximum of about 22 acres). You must file the claim at the local county courthouse and also with the BLM. Remember that only federal managed public lands are eligible. Until several years ago you also had to do $100 of assesment work each year for each claim. Assement work used to be fairly liberal ie surveying, drilling or almost any investment into proving or developing the resource.

But about 4 years ago, the feds changed it to a $100 per claim rental fee. This caused a lot of small claim holders to abandon their claims. Only the big boys benefited from this. The BLM has plenty of info if you are interested in trying to stake claims.

Many of the western states are not happy about the fact that the feds control so much of the land within their states. In Nevada, the feds control over 75% of the land. When the western states were admitted to the union, they were supposed to be admitted on an equal basis with the eastern states. However, the eastern states were afraid that with all of the vacant land out here, all of their citizens would move west. That is why the feds maintained control of vast lands in the west. They were only supposed to keep control until the states could manage the land themselves. But every westen state had to give up control of these lands or they would not be admitted to the union. You will notice that none of the easter states have BLM or US Forest Service Lands to any extent.

I would like to stay on my soap box and maybe I will later but this is enough for now. Unless you haven't guessed, you have hit on one of my passions, equality for the westen states to determine their own futures.

In my proud opinion
