You're exactly right. I see the focus shifting from the networking worldview to something meta to that ... call it the virtual web ... as the next cycle of innovation is born from the consolidation of it's parent. CSCO and LU as companies are not passing ... I have no ideas about that. But the networking worldview with which they have been largely identified now approaches the limits of it's expression ... is stabilizing ... and tends toward commoditization.

To the contrary, from what little I know, both CSCO and LU have the ability to define and extend themselves quite easily.

I should have put quotes around "Cisco" and "Lucent" ...
