BGR, to equate the box manufacturers with all of mechanized industry during the industrial revolution doesn't make much sense to me. as you said yourself, the service industry is far bigger and much more important than manufacturing nowadays. the fact remains though that economy-wide productivity gains have remained negligible during the past decade. however, in box manufacturing the productivity gains have been enormous and that skews the whole statistic.
