New, old DJIA component mixed in first day of new Dow
NEW YORK, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Intel Corp. <INTC.O> and Microsoft Corp. <MSFT.O> turned in mixed performances in their trading debuts as the first Nasdaq stocks in the 30-component Dow Jones Industrial on Monday.
In afternoon trade, Intel slipped 13/16 to 76-5/8, while Microsoft rose 1/2 to 93-1/16.
Meanwhile, U.S. equities market were mixed, with the newly configured Dow off 31 at 10,699 and the Nasdaq composite up 4.5 to 2971.
As for the two other additions to the Dow, Home Depot Inc. <HD.N> edged up 11/16 to 76-7/16 and SBC Communications Inc. <SBC.N> rose 1-15/16 to 52-7/8.
Of the four old-line industrial companies dropped from the 103-year-old market barometer, only Chevron Corp. <CHV.N> gained, with a 5/8 rise to 91-15/16.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co <GT.N> fared the worse, declining 1-1/2 to 39-13/16, while Sears Roebuck and Co. <S.N> dropped 7/8 to 27-5/16 and Union Carbide Corp. <UK.N> was off 9/16 to 60-7/16.
Last Tuesday, Dow Jones & Co Inc <DJ.N> said it was making the changed to better reflect the composition of the U.S. economy.
