3Com Selects recordLab Internet, Audio Utilities and Music Creation Software To Bundle With Broad Range of Retail and OEM Products
3Com To Combine Multiple recordLab Titles With Upcoming Client Access and Audio Products; recordLab To Gain Access to 3Com's Proprietary Audio Processing Algorithms
Issaquah, Washington, November 1, 1999 --- recordLab(tm) Corporation, formerly Midisoft(r) Corportation., (OTCBB: RCLB) today announced it has signed a far-reaching licensing agreement with 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS). The agreement calls for 3Com to bundle a number of recordLab's music, audio and Internet-related software titles with 3Com client access and audio products. The agreement also calls for the companies to disclose interfaces to their respective hardware and software providing consumers with the benefits of hardware acceleration for audio processing. The companies also agreed to collaborate on a number of revenue sharing opportunities and online co-marketing activities. "3Com selected recordLab after an extensive search," said Salim Ling, Vice President of Product Management for 3Com's Personal Communications Division. "Our activity with recordLab supports the strategy 3Com began last year with the acquisition of audio software supplier EuPhonics. That acquisition and this initiative with recordLab point to 3Com's commitment to deliver a media-rich experience to customers of our client access products for the Internet." "recordLab has a well-established position in the competitive consumer market space for its high-quality music creation applications and its Internet-related media playback and management utilities," said Brian Allodi, General Manager, Internet Products and Services for recordLab. "We are thrilled that 3Com will offer our Internet Media Player(tm), MediaWorks(tm), Midisoft Studio and forthcoming recordLab Internet TapeDeck(tm) products with their industry-leading modems and audio solutions. We are eager to work closely with their audio engineering team to capitalize on the other opportunities presented by this agreement." 3Com and recordLab plan to leverage each company's extensive experience developing innovative music and audio technologies. recordLab will work closely with 3Com's EuPhonics division to allow recordLab software to take full advantage of the powerful on-board audio acceleration capabilities in 3Com's hardware audio products, and on PC audio solutions implemented by OEM customers using 3Com audio technology.
Additionally, 3Com will port a select number of its proprietary audio effects software programs that recordLab will use to offer its customers "pro audio-class effects processing" on Intel(r) Pentium(r)-class PC's. Previously, these technologies have been marketed almost exclusively to leaders in the high volume integrated circuit, sound card, computer, and pro-audio industries such as Analog Devices, VLSI Technologies, S3, Digidesign, Emu, Lexicon, Roland, and Yamaha. The agreement marks the first time these audio effects technologies will be made available for use on the Intel Pentium/Microsoft(r) Windows(r) PC platform. recordLab will implement the 3Com algorithms as Microsoft DirectShow(tm)-compatible plug-ins for recordLab's Internet TapeDeck, a multi-track digital audio recording application due out later this year. "3Com intends to combine its experience and industry-leading technologies in modems, network interface cards and sound capabilities to bring to market a new class of products for IP telephony, LAN telephony and streaming multimedia applications," offered 3Com's Ling. "This agreement allows recordLab and 3Com--as well as our valued OEM partners--to deliver high quality, audio-centric Internet solutions for millions of consumers who increasingly expect and demand a more engaging media experience when they use their PC's."
