700 Athlon motherboards with chip available from local computer parts wholesaler/retailer for $899.95. Many local clone makers offering K7 up to 650. Haven't seen a 700 machine yet, though I am intrigued that enough are in the supply channel that you motherboards with the K7 700 are offered.

Unfortunately, one gets the feeling that one is on the cusp of new and old technology. 4x AGP is on the way, but probably not before Christmas. USB 2, twice as fast as USB 1, out sometime next year, maybe killing off Firewire. One gets the feeling that 1 Gig chips are just around the corner. More speed than the average home user or small business needs, but still why not wait for cutting edge, it will drive down the prices of everything else. Athlon apparently, at a minimum, on a par with current Coppermine and with standard DRAM and .25 manufacture. What will it be with .18 micron manufacture.

Need a new machine, my ole 120 is showing its age, but maybe it can creak along until next Spring or Summer.
