Has it been reported that there was anything at all in the suitcase? If the suitcase was empty it could be a clue that it was to be used to transport something that the two of them expected to receive that night. If it contained something (I seriously doubt) it would probably been taken. If it contained drugs it would be easy for the cops to find this out.

Was any other part of the house disturbed? If not and the killers expected to leave the scene with something like money that they didn't arrive with then it must have been in the dinning room or one of the victims got it and turned it over.

Two telephones has to have something important to do with it. Were they talking to each other on their cellphones when the killers arrived?
