Mohan,
Hi! Debate is fine, it's a way of approaching truth. And closing a society off, for fear of "cultural domination," in my opinion tends towards the opposite.
Here's my problem with your previous post:
Speaking of religion and conversion etc, I think what people may be worried about is 'culutral domination', religion being one of the tools to achieve this objective. Once this is achieved it can be an effective tool in exerting foreign policy objectives.
To me you are incorrectly linking the actions of religious zealots with governmental policy. Unlike imperial Britain, there is supposed to be a separation of church and state in the US. I think that is a healthy idea.
As for your query: no US state has ever, to my knowledge, been ruled by a communist. Many communists have run for state and federal offices.
I would agree, if this is the point that you were making, that societies often defend themselves through the governmental action of excluding entry to those they see as threats. Other than excluding those who advocate an immediate, violent overthrow of the government/society, I see this as unfortunate.
Best wishes, Tom |
